TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A diamond ring lost by a Tampa Zales store has been found and returned to its owner.
Alise Bernier, of Tampa, turned to 8 On Your Side on her 4th wedding anniversary, after Zales lost her diamond ring. She had dropped off her ring at Zales Jewelers at University Mall last week for warranty work, and it disappeared. When she went to pick up her ring, the store handed her another ring.
“They tried to pass it off as my ring,” she told News Channel 8.
“My ring is white gold, and the ring they tried to give me is yellow gold, and they said, oh, it was just dipped in the wrong color, and I said, ‘No, it’s not my ring.'”
She was getting nowhere with the company, and called 8 On Your Side in tears. Investigator Shannon Behnken made a phone call to the corporate offices of Zales and hours later, she had her ring back.
“Whatever you did or said, something changed with Zales, and they got my ring back,” Bernier said.
The ring was found at a Zales store Sarasota. The manager drove it back to Tampa’s University Mall to personally return it to Bernier.
“The store manager apologized for not returning my phone call,” she said. “She said she has an accent and is difficult to understand that’s why she was giving me the runaround, but I don’t think that’s a good excuse.”
“All the memories, I have them with me again, and I’m never losing it again,” she said. “I am so, so, thankful
While Bernier got her ring back, she is not alone. Our 8 on your side investigation began in January. Since the beginning of the year, we uncovered tens of thousands of dollars in missing jewelry and upset brides all over Tampa Bay.
Tampa Police are looking into missing jewelry from the stores, but their investigation is crawling.
