Miami International among airports that track phones

MIAMI, FL (WFLA) – Miami International Airport is among several airports in the country that use a beacon system to track passenger location and inform them about the wait times, according to NBC.

The airports use the Bluetooth-powered beacon system to collect information and send passengers an estimated wait time for the security lines, letting them know if they can spend some extra time shopping or if it is time to hurry to the gate.

There are about 450 beacons like this at the Miami International. Some passengers say this is convenient and helpful, others find that this is invasion of privacy.
