BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — Players and coaches are in danger of striking out after hundreds of dollars was stolen from a youth softball league in Brandon over the weekend. Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning a locked concession stand was broken into at Sadie Park.
The concession stand had a safe full of donations from the Brandon Leaguerettes weekend tournament, but the thieves didn’t stop there. They also stole an electronic computer cash register worth $600.
“The whole league survives on donations and money from the concession stand, so this really hurts when somebody does something like that to us,” league president Dan Carney said.
“It just hurts for all of us to come out here and see that we were so violated by someone who doesn’t even care. I mean, these are kids,” parent Michelle Booth said.
The terrible deed has not hardened the heart of little Grace Sehless, who decided to donate all of her birthday money back to her beloved league after learning about the theft. “I felt really sad yesterday that they stole stuff from the concession stand. I hope that whoever or whatever took the money affords that stuff and brings it back,” Grace said.
The case is now under investigation and is in the hands of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
