St. Pete Beach’s iconic Don CeSar named Best Historic Hotel

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa Bay treasure is ranked among the best in the country.

The Loews Don CeSar Hotel on St. Pete Beach was named “Best Historic Hotel” in the Historic Hotels of America 2015 Awards of Excellence.

The Don CeSar, which is nicknamed “The Pink Palace” opened in 1928 during the height of the Gatsby era. The hotel won in the 201 to 400 guestrooms category.

Other winners included The Peabody Memphis which was built in 1869 and won the Best Historic Hotel over 400 guestrooms category and the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts which won the Best City Center Historic Hotel category.
