PALM HARBOR, FL (WFLA) – With a little less than two weeks until the end of the month, people across the Tampa Bay area are scrambling to figure out what they want to dress up for Halloween. Well we found a library in Palm Harbor, that has good gear for as little as $5.
“Today through Halloween we are having our costume swap. You can bring in a gently used clean halloween costume in good condition and swap it for one of the ones we have here in our collection,” said East Lake Community’s Children’s Librarian Susan Schuler.
East Lake Community Library has more than fifty costumes out on display in the main area of the library and thanks to a generous donation from Suncoast Academy of Dance, the library has even more costumes boxed up in the back of the library just in case you don’t find what you want on display.
“We have some super heroes and we have some Star Wars Characters. We are very lucky this year we got a great donation. A huge box of dresses and dress up clothes from the Suncoast Academy of Dance. So we have a lot of dresses so you can be a ballerina or a princess or you can use your imagination and adapt your costume,” Schuler said.
Parents and their children we talked to think the costume swap is a great way to get quality outfits at a reasonable price.
“I think the costume swap is a great idea because it allows parents to be able to afford a new costume for their student or child each year. It’s kind of like a wedding dress you only wear it once so it’s recyclable like prom dresses for teenagers so it’s something to use for little ones as well,” said Laura Allison who brought her daughter to the library for a day program.
“You don’t wear costumes all the time. You only wear them one time a year so it’s a great opportunity to get want you want and if you have something you don’t need you can give it to somebody else,” said Laura’s daughter Callie.
You can take advantage of the costume swap at the East Lake Community Library in Palm Harbor until October 31st.
