TAMPA, Fla.  – Guavaween, Tampa’s biggest, most famous Halloween Party returns to Ybor City for the 30th year anniversary with Guavaween: Apocalypse on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 from 6pm to 2am at The Cuban Club.

The theme for the 30th Anniversary, Guavaween: Apocalypse, will feature looks, décor, and entertainment inspired by the post-apocalyptic world. The festivities will take place primarily in the Cuban Club Courtyard, keeping alive old traditions like the costume contest and reviving others like the search for a new “Lady Guava”.  Proceeds from the event benefit the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce.

Guavaween: Apocalypse is being co-produced through a partnership between 813area.com and Big City Events. The partnership was chosen to produce the historic Guavaween event in 2014 after a few years of unsuccessful undertakings.

Halloween Fun in Tampa Bay: Haunted Houses, Events and More

The 813area.com and Big City Events team drew upon feedback from area businesses who wanted to end the event after the “Mama Guava Stumble Parade” in 2011 and from less than successful efforts from a music festival model in 2012 and a smaller event at Centro Ybor that drew only a few hundred in 2013.

In 2014, the first year the 813area.com and Big City Events partnership produced the event, the team took Guavaween back to its roots where it started as the Artists and Writer’s Ball at the Cuban Club.  That event was extremely successful, drawing a crowd of over 3,500 without any safety incidents.

Organizers are looking forward to building on last year’s success to produce this year’s 30th Anniversary Guavaween: Apocalypse.

The Theme

Guavaween: Apocalypse will feature looks, décor, and entertainment inspired by the post-apocalyptic world portrayed in the recent popular movie Mad Max: Fury Road and other classic movies such as 28 Days Later, Dooms Day, and others.  Look for an awesome projection, lighting, and laser show on the Main Stage.

Entertainment

Highway to Hell, the popular AC/DC tribute band will anchor the main stage along with other rock bands including The Scream Machine.  The always-popular DJ Fresh will serve as host and MC the finalists of the Costume Contest and announce the new Lady Guava.

Costume Contest

The world famous Guavaween costume contest will return with a cash First Place prize and an improved process.  EVERY contestant will get to walk the stage to show off their world-class costume in front of a panel of judges.   Categories include Best in Theme, Most Sexy, Group, Individuals, and more! More details and registration information can be found on the event website.

Lady Guava Contest

For the 30th Anniversary of Guavaween, organizers are looking to refresh Guavaween with the search for a new Lady Guava.  The new Lady Guava will replace the traditional Mama Guava and will reflect what the growing city of Tampa has become for young adults.  A perfect Lady Guava candidate is a female millennial, resident of Tampa, who reflects the values of our up and coming vibrant and hip city.  Interested candidates are asked to submit a video of 30 seconds or less on “Why They Should be Lady Guava” and use the #Guavaween and #LadyGuava hashtags.  More details are available on the event website.
