Another Manatee bar targeted after string of armed robberies

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) — Armed robbers stole money from employees and customers at Scalawags Pub just before 11 p.m. Monday night. According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the three male suspects covered their faces and were armed with handguns.

This is the latest in a string of armed robberies at bars in Manatee County, but the Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether the cases are related. Since April, robbers also hit up the Oasis Bar, Bubbas Too, the Dolphin Lounge, and 3 Oaks Bar and Grill.

At Bubba’s Too in Bradenton, the crooks also wore masks over their faces. Once inside, they pistol whipped an employee. At the Dolphin Lounge, also in Bradenton, the robbers ordered a bartender to the ground.

The bar’s owner invited other owners and employees to learn how to be safe. “Just the fact that they’re coming in and stealing is bad enough, but then when they’re using a weapon and threatening lives at the same time, it’s very aggravating,” Brent Cohenour said.

Manatee County deputies assured the agency is working to put the men away. The robbers also targeted Three Oaks Bar and Grill, in Ellenton, where they also took booze. And last Thursday, at the Oasis Bar, in Bradenton, they also robbed customers of cash and phones.
