TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – The federal trial begins Monday for the Spring Hill couple accused of lying about a sinkhole under its house. Prosecutors decided to charge the couple with federal wire fraud after watching an 8 On Your Side investigation.

8 On Your Side’s Shannon Behnken uncovered documents showing Glenn and Kathryn Jasen cashed in on a settlement from Citizens Property Insurance for the sinkhole, but never fixed it. Records show they checked “no” on questions about sinkhole activity on real estate disclosure forms when they sold the house to Kelly Magbee.

Magbee and her five children moved out after a crack opened in their living room. Then they found out about the sinkhole.

The Jasens could face up to 20 years in federal prison if they are found guilty. Prosecutors expect to seat a jury Monday morning and begin opening statements after lunch.
