Suspect sought in fatal hit-and-run accident in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Monday night in the 3400 block of Orient Road.

Around 10:10 p.m. Monday, 67-year-old Nicholas Carson Southerland of Riverview was walking eastbound across Orient Road just south of Waycross Avenue. Deputies say an unknown vehicle struck Southerland while he was in the roadway.

Southerland has died as a result of the impact.

Deputies say the suspect’s vehicle left the scene northbound on Orient Road undetected. The vehicle is possibly a pickup truck, believed to be a late 1990’s to early 2000’s, white Ford F-150 with extended cab. The vehicle will have damage to a bug guard which is located at the leading edge of the hood; deputies say a 2-foot piece of the guard was left at the scene.
