Motorcyclist dies after crash with Lealman fire truck

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A motorcyclist died after a crash with a Lealman Fire District truck early Sunday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened near 66th Street and 54th Avenue North at about 1 a.m. The victim was riding his motorcycle going north on the inside lane on 66th Street approaching 54th Avenue North. The fire truck Engine 19 of the Lealman Fire District was in the center lane on 66th with the emergency lights and sirens on, according to FHP.

The motorcycle failed to yield to the truck at the intersection and passed it. When the fire truck turned, the motorcycle hit it, according to FHP.

The motorcyclist died on scene. FHP troopers are working on notifying his family. The driver of the firetruck, George Farrall, 59, of St Petersburg, wasn’t injured.
