Persons of interest sought in deadly stabbing of former USF player


TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa police have identified three persons of interest wanted in connection with the murder of a former USF football player in Ybor City over the weekend. Police released a set of surveillance images on Tuesday that show the three people, in addition to photos of two witnesses. Police need the public’s assistance in identifying the people in the photos.

Former standout, USF defensive lineman Elkino Watson, 23, died after he was stabbed in a fight outside a club around 3 a.m. on Sunday. His friend, football player Desmond Horne, 22, was also stabbed and is recovering at Tampa General Hospital. He is in stable condition.

Investigators say it happened outside Club Orpheum which is located at 19th Street and 7th Avenue. The suspects left on foot, while the victims stumbled to the parking lot behind the club before being transported to the hospital.
