Driver arrested after hitting elderly woman, grandson in Palm Harbor

An elderly woman and her grandson were hit by a car in Palm Harbor Tuesday while walking on the sidewalk.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (WFLA) – A 32-year-old man lost control of his vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Palm Harbor and hit an elderly woman and her grandson, troopers said.

The driver, Francis Leon Pieri, of Tarpon Springs, has been charged with driving with a suspended license, having a suspended license while causing serious injury to someone else, failing to use due care and failing to maintain his lane. The Florida Highway Patrol said Pieri was driving north on Highlands Boulevard, south of Maclaren Drive North, around 3:05 p.m.

He lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and hit the woman and child as they walked on a sidewalk parallel to the road. The victims were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The grandma suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The boy’s injuries are listed as minor.
