TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is now offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the stabbing death of former USF Football player Elkino Watson.
Watson was killed and another USF football player was wounded in an early morning stabbing outside Club Orpheum in Ybor City on Sunday. Detectives identified the victims as Watson, 23, and Desmond Horne, 22.
According to Tampa police, the stabbing happened just before 3 a.m. The two men were stabbed when a group of people were arguing near the front doors of the club. The suspects left on foot, while the victims stumbled to the parking lot behind the club. Both Watson and Horne were transported to Tampa General Hospital. Watson later died at the hospital and Horne was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Clinton Jones, a former teammate and buddy from Miami, remembers Watson and is devastated by his passing. He was at the Orpheum on Saturday night with Watson.
“He was a good cat, on and off the field. Always had a smile on his face, always kept jokes going. He stayed clean, good dude. He was a good father,” said Jones.
Other friends turned to social media to grieve his death. Spencer Boyd tweeted, “Rest up big Kino. Once a bull, always a bull. You went way too soon. RIP.”
