LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) — Rapper Kevin Gates released a response to his controversial Lakeland concert on YouTube in a song called, “The Truth.” The clip, just more than three minutes, doesn’t have any video attached. In the rap he claims the woman touched him inappropriately several times and he asked her to stop, saying “Two or three times I had already warned her.”
Some additional lines he states include, “All in the news what happened in Florida,” “iPhone recorded,” and “You should have respect for yourself.” At one point Gates says, “Father forgive me I ****** up a blessing.”
Lakeland Police said Tuesday they are charging rapper Kevin Gates with simple battery for what happened at Rumor’s nightclub. The video shows the rapper kicking Miranda Dixon,18, after she reached out and grabbed his shorts. Tampa station WILD 94.1 announced Tuesday they are done airing his music. And former followers are speaking straight to the man they once respected.
The rapper is getting some support on his YouTube page but a petition to ban Gates from future performances on Change.org has more than 6,000 signatures. Gates is scheduled to appear at Whiskey North in Tampa this weekend. The club posted his “apology” link on Facebook with no comment.
