Deputies say device found in Madeira Beach was firework or smoke bomb

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – Pinellas County deputies say the device located in the Holiday Isle Marina parking lot Wednesday evening was a firework or smoke bomb. Holiday Isle is located at 555 1/2 150th Ave. in Madeira Beach.

The device resembled a grenade, deputies said. For safety reasons, it was cut in half.

A kayaker found the device after returning to the parking lot, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were called around 6:10 p.m. Deputies called the Tampa Bomb Squad to examine the device.
