LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) – Rapper Kevin Gates’ Friday night performance at a Lakeland nightclub is getting a lot of attention for the wrong reasons.
Video captures Gates kicking a female fan after she reached out and touched his leg at Rumor’s Nite Club. According to the girl’s mom, Kristy Irelan, her 18-year-old daughter Miranda admitted herself to the hospital and had to undergo a CT scan after the incident.
“She told me that she was excited to see him and next thing she knows she was kicked in the chest and she was passed out,” mother Kristy Irelan said. Irelan went on to say how bothered she is by what she sees in the video.
“It pisses me off,” Irelan said. “I don’t care who you are – an NFL player, just a regular person or a rapper- you don’t come to anybody’s home town and kick anybody- she did not deserve that,” Irelan added. Even though Miranda reached out to Gates first, she said his reaction was not justified.
“You want to be famous, you gotta deal with it,” Irelan said of fans reaching out to celebrities. This is not the first time Gates has made headlines for violence against a fan. Video online shows Gates fighting with two girls at a Michigan performance earlier this year.
In 2013, Rolling Stone ranked Gates’ song “Wylin” among the 100 Best Songs of the year. In 2014 his song “I Don’t Get Tired” reached number 20 on the Billboard rap charts.
