LIVE updates: Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on Cleveland Browns

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers face Cleveland Browns in the third pre-season game. This is a ‘dress rehearsal’ for all starters and Jameis Winston is expected to play longer.

9:52 p.m. The game is over, 31-7 win by Cleveland.

9:49 p.m. 2-minute warning, the Bucs are behind, 31-7.

9:23 p.m. Bucs’ Murray misses a field goal.

9:14 p.m. The Browns are piling on now. Rushing touchdown makes it 31-7 with :49 left in the 3rd, 62-yard, 6-play drive over 2:44. Thad Lewis scores from 7 yards out. McCown has been great, Cleveland is winning all three phases.

9:09 p.m. Jameis Winston is now out of the game. Finishes 6/15 for 90 yards and an interception.

8:53 p.m. McCown caps off a long drive with a touchdown pass to wide open Gary Barnidge; 24-7; 11 plays, 78 yards, 6:16 off the clock on that Cleveland drive. McCown looks like he is more than deserving of the starting job.

Coach Lovie Smith: “We didn’t have a fast start. The turnover didn’t help us any at all. You can’t give up a punt return like that. We started playing better football by the end of the half.”

8:30 p.m. Bucs’ Winston was sacked at the end of the half. This was  the third sack of the night carried out by the Browns. Cleveland leads 17-7 at recess.

8:27 p.m. Kwon Alexander delivers the most devastating hit on McCown.

8:15 p.m. The Bucs get a stop and will get one more possession to salvage this first half.

8:11 p.m. Barth misses a 40+ yard field goal that would’ve made it a one-score game. The Bucs’ special teams have been rough tonight.

8:07 p.m. A bruising, up-the-middle run for the Buccaneers’ Doug Martin. 10 yard gain

8:03 p.m. Buccaneers WR and kick returner Kaelin Clay is doubtful to return. He has a rib injury.

7:58 p.m. Jameis Winston completes a ball to Jackson, Bucs enter the red zone. Jameis Winston had a nice, clean pocket there for only the second time. Next play, Doug Martin’s touchdown! Doug’s first TD run of the year is a 19 yard run, and Tampa Bay is on the board!

7:44 p.m. Cleveland boots a field goal and takes a commanding 17-0 lead with 13:32 left in the second. Tampa Bay’s offense has yet to find rhythm.

7:39 p.m. Jameis Winston is intercepted by Charles Gaines to end the 1st quarter. The ball is taken back to the Bucs’ 12-yard line.

7:35 p.m. An impressive, back-breaking drive from Josh McCown & company results in 14-0 Cleveland with 1:27 left in the 1st quarter.

7:3 p.m. McCown leads the Browns down the field on a methodical drive, capped by a TD pass to Brian Hartline. Reversed upon video review. 14-0.

7:30 p.m. McCown picks up another first down with his legs, but gets popped by Kwon Alexander for his troubles.

7:19 p.m.  Brown’s McCown picks up the first down with his legs and dives head first. Awfully bold move for a 36-year-old in the preseason.

7:13 p.m. The Bucs come out gunning. Winston hits Louis Murphy for 22 yards on first down, but then gets hit as he throws on 2nd, falls incomplete.

7:10 p.m. 7-0 Cleveland just 1:38 into this game. Benjamin’s 53-yard punt return touchdown is the difference.

7:02 p.m. – The Bucs start from their own 20-yard line because the kick was a touch-back.
