Sinkhole opens up in Lake County neighborhood

GROVELAND, FL (WESH) – A 65-foot deep sinkhole was reported in a Groveland neighborhood Sunday, according to the Groveland Police Department.

The hole opened up in the area of Iowa Avenue and East Waldo Street around 1 p.m. One resident has been evacuated.

Residents south of State Road 50 and north of Anderson Street; and residents east of Lake Ave and west of State Road 33 are under a boil water alert.

Cecil Gray Middle School which begins class Monday is also under the boil water alert.

Police said it will remain in effect until the sinkhole can be filled.
