One person killed in Hillsborough County train, vehicle accident

State troopers are at the scene of an accident at 15237 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Hillsborough County, involving an Amtrak passenger  train.

The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed the driver of a 2012 Buick was killed.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. today. An Amtrak train with 149 passengers on board was heading westbound and traveling about 60 mph, when the accident happened.

Just west of Forbes Road, the train collided with the Buick as it tried to cross a private, well-marked railroad crossing. Because it is a private crossing, there are no crossing arms.

The driver, who was the sole occupant in the car, was a temporary worker at a business located adjacent to railroad tracks.

No injuries were reported on the train.
