Man shot, wounded in Tampa after robbery attempt

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – A man is in a hospital with serious injuries after being robbed at gunpoint and shot at, according to Tampa Police.

It happened around midnight near North Lantana Avenue and East 113th Street at the University Oakwood Apartments. The victim Michael Howard, 35, of Valrico, was sitting in his car when the suspect came up to him and demand cash, pointing a gun at him. Howard tried to drive off in his 2001 Chrysler Sebring but the suspect fired several rounds wounding Howard.

The victim drove up to a police cruiser not too far from the scene and told officers he was shot. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect is described as thin and short, about 5 feet 8 inches, black male with low haircut.
