PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – The Pasco County School district announced today that River Ridge High School Principal Maria Swanson has resigned for health reasons, effective September 2, 2015.  The district had learned of a potential violation of School Board Policy 1130 and an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and promptly began an investigation.

Superintendent Kurt Browning has appointed retired Pasco High School Principal Pat Reedy as temporary acting principal, effective on Thursday, August 20, while the district advertises the principal vacancy and interviews candidates.  The vacancy will be advertised tomorrow, Thursday, August 20.

RRHS assistant principal Erik Hermansen has been temporarily reassigned to Fivay High School.  Fivay has a new principal and is temporarily housing approximately 550 students from Bayonet Point Middle School, on top of more than 1,200 anticipated high school students.  The school was built with a capacity for 1,825 students.

“This is the absolute worst time to have a shake-up in a school’s administration, but in the best interests of the students and staff, I thought it was prudent to make these moves now,” said Superintendent Kurt Browning.  “I’m confident that the remaining administrators and the faculty of this great school will work with Acting Principal Reedy to have a successful school year start.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
