Confederate flag thief arrested in Sarasota

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA)- The confederate flag heist got millions of hits online. Now the man behind the viral video is paying for his actions with a trip to jail.

Manatee County Sheriff’s officials say Dejerrian Murray, 23, turned himself in Tuesday. He’s now charged with petit theft. Murray was identified after someone posted a video of him stealing the flag from a Sarasota home. The homeowner told News Channel 8 he didn’t care about his flag, he said he just wanted justice.

The #NoFlagginChallenge has inspired people across the country to steal confederate flags and post the videos online. Murray is now out of jail on a $2,000 bond.
