Pedestrian hit by Pinellas sheriff’s patrol car

LARGO, FL (WFLA) – A pedestrian was injured in an accident involving a Pinellas County Sheriff’s patrol car late Saturday evening, according to PCSO.

The pedestrian Nora J. Reitzel, 39, walked down a driveway of a home and Starkey Road trying to cross the roadway. Deputy Edward Feidt was going south on Starkey Road in the median lane in the marked cruiser. He was on duty at the time.

Deputy Feidt saw her and tried to avoid hitting her, slamming his breaks, but couldn’t stop on time and hit the woman.

She was taken to Bayfront Medical with non-life threatening injuries to her pelvis.

Deputy Feidt was not injured. According to PCSO, the woman was not on the crosswalk and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash on the woman’s part.

Starkey Road was closed for a few hours while the deputies were investigating the crash.
