SARASOTA, FL (WFLA) – A burglar with an apparent appetite took wine, chips, half of a sandwich, and many other items from a Sarasota home. Police did not have to go far to find their suspect.
The burglary happened Monday night at a house on Wisteria Street. Investigators say at about 9:30 p.m., a 13-year-old boy at the home saw a man opening the door to the office where the teen was. The man told the teen, “Stay here” then the man shut the door. The teen heard movement and voices. He called 911 when he thought the man was gone.
Sarasota police officers responded to the home and say the suspect got in the home through an unlocked rear lanai. He also removed four pieces of glass from a jalousie door. Investigators say the burglar took a TV, DVD player, XBox1, XBox360, Kindle Fire, XBox1 Controllers, HDMI cord, Lisabella wine, Cool Ranch Doritos, a bottle of Gatorade and half a Subway sandwich.
Detectives investigating the crime scene say they found the missing window panes in a trash can across the street, by an empty house. The garage behind the empty house was unlocked. Inside the garage there was a bicycle and a TV, DVD player, XBox on the storage shelves. There was also a plastic bin with various games and a Kindle Fire. All items matched the ones stolen from across the street, according to SPD.
The detectives found a man inside the house. An empty Subway bag, a Gatorade bottle, a corked bottle of Lisabella wine and Cool Ranch Doritos were laying next to him. The man inside the house was identified as Braxton L. Morgan, 27, of Sarasota. He was arrested and charged with felony burglary of an occupied dwelling and trespassing of an empty house.
Morgan was taken to the Sarasota County Jail.
