HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) — A Hillsborough County deputy was shot by a wanted suspect early Thursday morning after responding to a call for shots fired in the area of the 9400 block of Greystone Road in Thonotosassa. No arrests have been made yet.
Deputies are still actively searching for the suspect, and say they are questioning multiple people for various reasons in connection to the investigation.
Deputies arrived to the scene around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. When searching the area, shots were fired at three responding deputies by the unknown suspect resulting in one, Deputy Scott Ranney, being shot. Deputies returned fire at the suspect. They are not sure if the suspect was shot.
Deputy Ranney, 42, was transported to Tampa General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left thigh. He was released later Thursday morning and is expected to be okay. He’s been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2009.
The Sheriff’s Office was searching in the area near Greystone Road and Hershey Road Thursday. Investigators ask people in the area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity they see.
No description of the suspect has been released by invesigators.
