Heavy rain and failed pump cause flooding in Tampa apartment complex

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – Heavy rain and a pump that apparently failed again caused storm water to back up and flood Gibson Avenue, off 56th street near Fletcher Avenue.

Water flooded the IFON apartments. Owner Matthew Aneesh says the problem is chronic. Six families were forced out of here just 10 days ago. Power to the apartments was turned off Aug. 3, when the pump failed and water forced families to shelters.

“I’ve called the county and they haven’t done anything. Something’s got to be done.  There are one, two, three, four, five, six families without homes ,” Aneesh said.

Water made it difficult to get into and out of the Montessori Academy of Temple Terrace.

Chris Berrios picked up her son when the school notified her the water was rising.

“This is a recurring problem. We’ll see what happens tomorrow,” she said.
