St. Pete Fire and Rescue says gas leak over

UPDATE: Fire crews conducted a controlled burn and safely removed the rest of the propane tank’s gas, St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue said. .

PREVIOUS STORY: ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Residents of a St. Petersburg condo complex have been evacuated because of a gas leak and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

St. Petersburg Police Department officers are assisting the fire department with a propane gas leak at 970 85th Ave N. It appears that an underground propane tank is leaking.

A SPPD spokesperson said that some residents of an adjacent condominium complex were evacuated.

Dr. MLK Street was blocked for northbound traffic at 83 Avenue North. Southbound traffic between 87th Ave North to 83rd Ave North were rerouted into the adjoining neighborhood.
