Bad cable leaves Tampa retirees complex in dark

Repair workers anticipate restoring power at Tampa Baptist Manor about midnight Saturday.

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Tampa Baptist Manor at 215 Grand Central Ave. in Tampa is dark due to an extended power outage, a Tampa Electric spokeswoman has confirmed.

The power went out about 9 a.m. Saturday, TECO spokeswoman Sylvia Vega said.

The building went dark when a 450-foot cable running to the mid-rise complex burned out, she added.

The tower adjacent to The News Center, home of WFLA News Channel 8, is a residential complex for retirees.

Repair crews arrived on the scene about 10 a.m. and have been working to repair the cable.

TECO repair workers anticipate the power will be restored about midnight.

Vega said there is a generator on site, which has kept the elevator in the building operating despite the power outage.
