Snack machine vandal hits Polk County

Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward up to $3,000 for anyone who can help police identify the suspect.

Polk Sheriff Grady Judd holds photo of the suspect they are looking for in the vending machine vandalisms.

DAVENPORT, FL (WFLA) – A sophisticated snack machine vandal is stealing hundreds of dollars from hotel machines across the state. Authorities believe he’s stopping at hotels along I-4 and has now hit Polk County. When he walks in the door he makes a b-line for the snack machines.

“He’s breaking into candy machines, I don’t think he needs to eat any more candy,” Sheriff Grady Judd laughed Friday. “He takes a tool busts open the machine takes the money, looks like he took some candy, too,” Judd smiled.

From Daytona Beach to Osceola County and now in Polk County- he makes a stop–and hits every floor. “A candy machine? Hey, get out and get a job man like everybody else, work hard,” Fred Evans said.

A Davenport hotel’s General Manager, who says the man targeted two of his hotels and hit every floor’s machine, said it’s about 60 dollars or so that the theif gets from the money boxes.  But who really loses, he said, is the vending machine operator…left with hundreds of dollars in damages. Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward up to $3,000 for anyone who can help police identify the suspect.
