Fatal fire investigated in Tampa

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – One man is dead following an early morning structure fire in Tampa, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

It happened at 110 W. Ida St. just before 5 a.m. Saturday. Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a reports of a house on fire. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames emerging from the rear of the single-story, brick home.

After firefighters began battling the blaze, they discovered the floor of the home was unstable which made their initial search difficult, according to Jason Penny of Tampa Fire Rescue. After firefighters were able to complete their search, they discovered the remains of a man inside the home.

It took fire crews just under two hours to get the fire under control.

The Arson Task Force has begun an investigation of the residence, which is standard procedure when there are fatalities of this nature. No other injuries were reported.
