TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Tampa teen accused of murdering a transgender woman is also considered a person of interest in the murder of a Tampa man.
Detectives say Lamayne Gaillard age 18, shot 25-year-old India Clarke in the head. Clarke, who was born Samuel E. Clarke, was found dead by a maintenance worker outside the University Area Community Center in Tampa on Tuesday, July 21. Clarke had also been shot in the upper arm.
Detectives found a rental car parked a short distance away from where Clarke’s body was found. They say Clarke had rented the car. Inside the vehicle, detectives found a condom in the back that they say had fluid inside which tested positive for Gaillard.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified Gaillard as the suspect in Clarke’s murder. Several witnesses came forward and spoke with detectives under oath. One witness said Gaillard came to his home the day after Clarke’s murder and said “I think I killed somebody!” and that he “shot” the victim “across Fletcher.” Gaillard, who detectives say has a lengthy criminal history, was arrested on Wednesday, July 29 and is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.
A Tampa Police Department spokesperson on Thursday said that Gaillard is also considered a person of interest in the murder of Tyrone Sean Davis age 46, with a last known address in San Antonio, Fla.
