Thompson’s friend Jonathan Mercer said the suspect has battled drug addiction but he was shocked by the news. “He’s been in and out of rehab, trying to get his life right, and several jobs he’s probably been through,” Mercer said. “I would’ve never thought in a million years that that man would’ve done something like that.”
Mercer said Thompson has three children. He hopes the authorities catch him. “I hope he [doesn’t] do something stupid. I hope he turns himself in, he gets in there and turns his life around,” Mercer said.
