CITRUS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – Robert Doyle and Candelerio Gonzalez lived in the same Citrus area of Beverly Hills but never met until they crossed paths Thursday in a fatal road rage incident that left Gonzalez dead and Doyle in jail for second degree murder. Citrus Sheriff’s investigators released graphic 911 recordings that captured the moments leading up the shooting next to Doyle’s house.
“Some maniac…is trying to run me off the road,” Doyle said. “My gun’s already out its cocked and locked.” Meanwhile, Gonzalez’s wife was also on the phone with 911 operators calling for help as her husband followed Doyle through the streets of Beverly Hills while pulling a trailer. “He’s just driving like an idiot,” she told the operator. “Somebody needs to smack the crap out of this idiot.”
During the two calls, Gonzalez’s wife and Doyle’s wife both try to defuse the situation in their own away as their husbands hurtled toward their fatal encounter. Eventually Doyle arrives at his home while Gonzalez—with his wife, daughter and grandchild inside his vehicle—stops on the street and razzes Doyle. “I got your number buddy,” Gonzalez shouts.” I got your number.”
Seconds later, investigators say Doyle emerges from his truck with his gun in hand and shoots at Gonzalez five times. The shots are clearly audible on both 911 recordings. Gonzalez’s wife and daughter scream as he falls to the ground fatally wounded. “Oh daddy,” Gonzalez’s daughter screams. “Oh Daddy.”
Investigators say Doyle forced Gonzalez’s family to get out and holds them at gunpoint until deputies arrive. He’s now charged with second degree murder. Deputies insist this is not a Stand Your Ground case, but neither was it premeditated, they say.
