TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The body of a transgender woman was found outside a Hillsborough County community center on Tuesday morning.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death after a worker discovered the body outside the University Area Community Center located at 140 Avenue and 22nd Street in Tampa. Officials identified the victim as 25-year old Samuel Elija Clarke. Clarke had been going by the name India and had been living as a transgender woman.
Investigators say the body was first thought to be that of a woman, however it was later discovered that it was a man. The body was found in a grassy area near a basketball court. Investigators determined Clarke died as a result of upper body trauma.
The HCSO is asking anyone who might have information that can help investigators to call the sheriff’s office. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the unknown suspect(s) in this case. Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians will continue to process and examine evidence at the scene and conduct neighborhood interviews.
