TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The body of a transgender woman was found outside a Hillsborough County community center on Tuesday morning.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death after a worker discovered the body outside the University Area Community Center located at 140 Avenue and 22nd Street in Tampa. Officials identified the victim as 25-year old Samuel Elija Clarke. Clarke had been going by the name India and had been living as a transgender woman.

Investigators say the body was first thought to be that of a woman, however it was later discovered that it was a man. The body was found in a grassy area near a basketball court. Investigators determined Clarke died as a result of upper body trauma.

The HCSO is asking anyone who might have information that can help investigators to call the sheriff’s office. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the unknown suspect(s) in this case. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at http://www.crimestopperstb.com.

Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians will continue to process and examine evidence at the scene and conduct neighborhood interviews.
