Tampa youth organization, student earn prestigious awards

LITTLE ROCK, AR (WFLA) – Tampa youth organization received an outstanding chapter award at the international meeting this weekend in Arkansas.

The Gamma Eta Sigma Chapter (Tampa Alumni) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. proudly announced that their youth organization, the Sigma Beta Club, received the Southern Region Outstanding Chapter Award at the Conclave in Little Rock.

The Outstanding Member Award went to Jamel Jackson, a junior at Jefferson High School in Hillsborough County. Jackson also received a scholarship.

The Tampa chapter of Sigma Beta Club, an auxiliary of the The Crescent Foundation, Inc., the 501(c)3 arm of the the fraternity, is comprised of 25 boys between 13 and 18 years old. Its fraternity was the first in the 1950s to develop a youth group. Sigma Beta Club offers men of Sigma a unique opportunity to develop wholesome value, leadership skills, and social and cultural awareness of youth at a most critical stage in the youth’s personal development.

The awards were given at the international meeting over the weekend.
