Tampa Bay’s favorite manatee Snooty celebrates 67th birthday

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – Tampa Bay’s most-beloved manatee becomes more adorable with each passing year. As Snooty approaches his 67th birthday, he’s showing a few signs of aging. His skin has turned lighter grey and he has a little extra waddle under his chin.

SLIDESHOW: Snooty the manatee over the years

Snooty was born on July 21, 1948 in Miami and now lives at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton. He was the first manatee born in captivity. Snooty sets records every day for how long we know manatees can live, according to the museum.

Snooty is the oldest manatee in captivity and he is in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Snooty’s birthday party will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Admission to the party is free. The bash will be held outside in the Spanish Plaza at the South Florida Museum’s North parking lot by the Manatee River.

Annual Birthday Card Contest award winners will also be announced.

General Admission to the Museum’s inside galleries, Aquarium, and Planetarium will be reduced on Saturday, July 18 to $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (65 and up), and $7 for children ages 4-12 (children under 4 and Museum Members are always free).
