Package delivered to wrong address prompts evacuation in downtown Tampa

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Tampa Police officers responded to the Federal Building in downtown Tampa Friday afternoon to a report of the suspicious package. It was a case of a wrong address and there turned out to be no hazardous materials in it.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. at 500 E. Zack St. The building was evacuated in “an abundance of caution,” according to TPD. ATF, Tampa Fire Rescue crews also responded to the scene.

A robot was sent into the building to examine the package. Crews didn’t have to take the package to a different location after the robot came out. A K-9 crew went in to take a look at it as well.

Officials let the staffers back into the building at about 3:30 p.m. clearing the building. According to TPD, the package was intended to be delivered to a building nearby. The intended recipient of the packaged told authorities, there were materials for a science experiment.

The package contained no hazardous materials or explosives.
