ZEPHYRHILLS, FL (WFLA) – Seven mobile homes in Zephyrhills were damaged when strong storms rolled through the bay area Saturday evening.
Pasco Fire Rescue responded to the Casa Del Sol Mobile Home Park off of State Road 54 shortly after 5 p.m. Officials report the damage was primarily on Blanco Drive. Several carports were damaged as well as minor roof damage. Authorities were not forced to order any evacuations.
Lillian Robillard and her husband were on their way home from church, when they saw the damage as they pulled into the park.
“And my husband looked at Carol’s house and he says, there’s something wrong with that and we noticed that the carport was gone. And the roof on her porch, and it was all peeled back like a sardine can,” said Robillard. “And all the metal is out in the back in the retention pond and then we noticed a few houses down that got damaged.”
Robillard said the first thought going through her and her husband’s minds’, what about their home. “He came around the corner and backed up,” said Robilard, “and our house was fine.”
Mike Allen lives a few doors down and was watching the Rays game as the storm blew through. As it became more intense, he payed it more attention. “When the storm comes in I like to watch the show sometimes. I stepped out the front door and the next thing I knew the hail was coming and then I felt the wind and all.” Said Allen. “And I stepped back inside and that’s when we felt the place shutter a little bit and I looked out the window and seen the debris. ”
Allen soon realized some of that debris was coming from his mobile home. After the storm passed, he went out and surveyed the damage. The wind had peeled his roof back. He and his brother bent the aluminum back and plan to replace 25 panels beginning on Sunday.
When asked if he believed straight line winds or a small tornado caused the damage, he answered the latter. “I would probably say a small tornado or definitely a twister,” said Allen, “because of the way, I don’t think it ever touched ground, I think it was just rooftop hitting. ”
Heavy storms rolled across other parts of the Tampa Bay area, leaving sporadic damage in its wake.
There were reports of storm damage in St. Petersburg and street flooding in South Tampa.
