POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A missing Polk teenage girl was found with an adult male in Hartford, MI, Polk County Sheriff’s detectives said Sunday.
According to the PCSO press release, the 13-year-old girl was reported missing in Polk County on July 7. Two days later, PCSO got a warrant for the arrest of Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez, 24, of Hartford, MI. The detectives with the Missing Persons Unit at PCSO received information thah the missing girl is at his house, living there without her family’s consent or knowledge.
The man was taken into custody by the local authorities after they verified that the girl was at the house. Hernandez-Gomez is charged with kidnapping and interference with child custody.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan also investigated the man for the crimes he may have committed within their jurisdiction. He was charged with felony criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, with a $150,000 bond.
Hernandez-Gomez is awaiting extradition to Florida.
“We are grateful to the Michigan law enforcement agencies who assisted us in this investigation. This suspect will remain in custody facing very serious charges in Michigan before he is brought to Florida to face some equally serious charges,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
