Gator attacks dog in Tampa

Tampa police officers arrived to find the dog's owner on a small island in the Hillsborough River searching for her 75 lb. black lab.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Trappers searched the Hillsborough River Sunday evening for an alligator that attacked a dog. The dog went missing after the attack.

At 7:08 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a call about a woman who was in the Hillsborough River near the dam at Rowlett Park. The woman was yelling about an alligator.

Tampa police officers arrived and found Natasha Lee, 28, on a small island in the river. Lee told officers that her black lab named Haze had chased a bird into the river. A large alligator attacked Haze and dragged the dog under water.

TPD officers guided Lee back to shore using a throw rope. Lee was not injured. Trappers were called to the scene to search for the alligator.

As of Sunday evening, the dog and alligator had not been found. Haze is three years old and weighs 75 lbs.
