TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — The Tampa teenager who was beaten by Israeli Police about a year ago is heading back to Jerusalem Thursday morning. The controversial video sparked international controversy over Palestinian and Israeli relations.

Tariq Khdeir, the Tampa resident with Palestinian descent, tells News Channel 8 he was a bystander to a protest after his cousin’s murder. Police, who beat him unconscious, claim he was throwing rocks. For the last year the Khdeir family has been fighting legal battles. Israel is no longer pursuing charges and the teen is going to visit his family for the first time since the traumatic incident.
