WASHINGTON, D.C. (WFLA) – US Sen. Bill Nelson, D-FL, will have surgery to remove prostate cancer, his press secretary confirmed Thursday.
According to the press release from the senator’s office, he had no symptoms and doctors found the cancer early in a routine exam. The scans showed no signs of it spreading outside the prostate. Nelson said he will still run for re-election in 2018.
“I’ve been blessed with good health, which has allowed me the great privilege of public service – and I look forward to continuing serving our country and Florida,” he said in the press release.
