Storm causes damage, power outages in Plant City

Hundreds lose power after thunderstorms rolled across eastern Hillsborough County Sunday.

Heavy thunderstorms in Plant City on Sunday caused downed trees, limbs and power lines.

Plant City, FL (WFLA) – More than 600 homes were without power in the Plant City area Sunday night after a strong storm brought down trees, limbs and power lines.

The storm hit around 5:30 Sunday afternoon and created a lot of cleanup for several homes along Maryland Ave., Francis, and Cherry Streets.

Blair Wiggins, who lives on Maryland Avenue, had just gotten home from a movie when he witnessed another thriller.

“Limbs crashing everywhere, I have an awning with a trailer and I’ve got a china doll tree and it crashed into it and broke right in half,” Wiggins said.

“I’ll be breaking the chain saw out tomorrow,” he added.

Richard Woods damage wasn’t as bad, but he feared the worst after what he heard.

“We had our bedroom window closed- it pulled it open sucked things off the dresser,” Woods said.

“It sounded like a freight train coming through,” he added.

Crews are expected to be out early Monday morning to clean the debris across the roadways.
