Visit the Tampa SS American Victory Mariners Museum

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – A patriotic place families can celebrate Independence Day is in Tampa on board the SS American Victory steamship located along Channelside Drive. A Family FunFest celebration on the 70-year-old vessel will include a DJ, food trucks, and a great view for fireworks. The FunFest is on Saturday, July 4, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

But the SS American Victory Mariners Museum is also a fun place to visit any day of the week. Families are free to explore the ship on their own. They can also interact with volunteers and veterans who explain the importance of the ship. “It’s awesome!” exclaimed Mateo Serrano, 8 years old. There’s also a museum to help explain why this ship is so important.

“She served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam – so there’s a lot of neat stories there,” said Bill Kuzmick, President, Victory Ship Inc. Many kids who visit urge others to come as well. “They should get off the couch, and stop watching TV and get on the ship and have fun!” said Serrano. Adult tickets cost $10, children between 4 and 12 get in for $5. There are discounts for veterans and students. There is also a discount on Groupon. The Family FunFest Independence Day celebration costs a couple dollars extra per person. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
