St. Petersburg, FL (WFLA) Clinton Lee is a St. Petersburg photographer who travels the world to photograph weddings. Lee is currently in Thailand where is doing his job for a happy couple. A recent Facebook posting he made is now getting worldwide attention because of his view on same sex marriages. A bride to be contracted with Lee’s company, “Brentwood Photography” for her wedding.
Lee was in Thailand when he saw an email from the bride that caught him off guard. The bride informed Lee, “We would just like to inform you that we will NOT be using your services for our wedding. My Fiance and I support traditional marriage between a man and a woman and don’t want our money going to places that support otherwise.” The bride also asked for her retainer fee back.
Lee included her email and his response in a Facebook post that has now been seen by more than three million people around the world. “I just shook my head because I couldn’t really believe that. To me, it’s not that I support Gay marriage, I just support marriage equality for everybody,” said Lee from his hotel room in Thailand. Lee informed the bride he was taught not to judge others and to love everyone else. He also informed her he would not refund her retainer fee, as was spelled out in their contract.
Instead, he donated the fee to GLADD an organization that supports Gay and Lesbian rights. “I was just being supportive of a group of people that I love. I’m a straight guy myself, but I love everybody and I couldn’t believe that not only did she have a different opinion, but she thought no one else should be able to have what she doesn’t like,” said Lee. The phone for Brentwood Photography now rings non stop with comments from people both opposed to same sex marriage and people who support Lee. The photographer says some people have poured their hearts out to him and told him his stance has given them strength.
“It’s a little overwhelming, it’s surprising, it’s shocking and all that stuff, but honestly I didn’t think it would be as big as it was because I was just doing what I thought any anybody would do and standing up for what I thought was right,” said Lee. He is not identifying the bride because he says he doesn’t want to ruin her wedding. She did email him back after his first response. Lee says her words were not kind.
