Laptop, duffle bag, lead deputies to body in Bradenton pond

Residents called 911 after finding a laptop computer near a pond at a Bradenton mobile home park.

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA)- Detectives with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a man whose body was found near a vehicle submerged in a Bradenton pond.

At 7:40 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to the Golf Lakes Estates Mobile Home Park located at 5000 5th St. East in Bradenton. Residents there called 911 after finding a laptop computer near a pond on the property.  Upon arriving at the location, deputies discovered a duffle bag that appeared to be resting on top of something in the pond. Deputies also observed tire tracks leading to the pond.

The MCSO dive team was called to the scene and found a vehicle submerged in the pond. The body of Michael J. McDonald, 25, of Davenport was found near the vehicle. Detectives later learned that a tow truck was dispatched to the location, but left after arriving not finding anyone in the area. Detectives believe that McDonald may have accidentally drowned while trying to retrieve personal items from the submerged vehicle. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
