TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Chasing the cup was a special time for Tampa Bay Lightning players and their fans. And with such an exciting season, fans say they’re now a bit lost and heartbroken when it comes to getting their sports fix.
Well, there’s nothing better for the “Bolts Blues” than the “Rays Craze” to get you back into the game and ready to cheer on the home team now in first place.
One woman, who had her hair painted blue at the Trop Monday night said, “You couldn’t ask for anything better than this!”
Another fan smiled, “You can’t beat it, they’re winning and everything is good.”
Many Rays fans tell us they loved seeing the Lightning vie for the Stanley Cup, and when it was over, they wanted more. More excitement. More sports. More love for the game. So, to see the Rays now in first place takes the sting out of Stanley.
Joshua Kelsey follows both teams and loved cheering them on this year. “The Rays are gonna take over where the Lightning left off and hopefully take us to the world series.”
For others, the sting is still fresh.
An Auburndale father, Chris Brown, said, “Sting is still there, that last game 6, I wanted that 7th game. I think does in a way, we have to work through that loss that didn’t want to happen.”
Fans also say they love how winning teams ignite the spirit of Tampa Bay.
Nancy Phelps is looking forward to the Bucs. “Just continue in baseball then when that is over with, then, there’s football also!”
But, the attendance is what Rays fans admit needs work. At Monday night’s game against the Blue Jays, the total paid attendance was 10,324, which fans admit, is disappointing for a sports town.
