Alert canceled for girl, 7, missing from Miami

An Amber Alert was previously issued for 7-year-old Jala Barnett, who was believed to be missing with her mother and stepfather.

UPDATE: The Florida Missing Child Alert for 7-year-old Jala Barnett has been cancelled. FDLE says the case has been resolved.

PAST STORY: An Amber Alert has been issued for a 7-year-old girl who went missing from Miami and is thought to be in danger.

The Miami Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are looking for Jala Barnett, age 7.

Jala Barnett is 4 feet tall, weighs 65 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and pink shorts. She was last seen at the Sunshine Inn Motel, in the 4800 block of W. Flagler Street, and is believed to be in danger.

Authorities say Jala Barnett is likely with her mother, Kristy Evans, age 34, and stepfather Michael Evans, age 30, a fugitive from Ohio.

NBC Miami talked with Jala’s father in Ohio, who says his daughter has been missing for over a month.

Police say the couple has a history of drug problems and Michael Evans escaped house arrest in Ohio. They say the pair is also wanted for questioning in a murder that occurred at the Miami motel where they were last seen.

NBC Miami says Michael and Kristy Evans, along with Jala, were staying inside the same room where a 46-year-old man was found murdered Saturday morning.

Kristy Evans is 5 feet 04 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Michael Evans is 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds, and has black hair and green eyes

The trio may be traveling in a 2001, dark blue Ford Escort with Ohio tag number FUT4068 or a 2005, blue Audi A4, with Florida tag number BKD6156.
