TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Tampa man is accused of dropping a pet rabbit into a swimming pool and then leaving it to die.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies say at 9:10 a.m. on June 19, Steve B. Rodd, 49, intentionally dropped the pet rabbit into the swimming pool of the Vista Inn at 400 Bearss Ave. Investigators say Rodd stood on the pool deck as the rabbit struggled in the water and made no effort to save it. The rabbit stopped struggling in the water after two minutes and Rodd walked away.

Maintenance staff removed the deceased rabbit from the water after another guest saw it floating in the pool. Rodd was charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
