Monroe County mother, 2 children die in house fire

Fire officials and detectives are working to determine what has caused the deadly blaze.

MONROE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A mother and her two small children died in an early morning blaze in Monroe County Monday, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Dispatchers received first calls about the fire at the house on Anguila Lane on Ramrod Key about 12:35 a.m. When deputies and the fire crews got there, the home was engulfed. The crews managed to rescue an older brother. He was taken to a hospital with severe burns by a helicopter. An older sister managed to escape uninjured.

The mother and two younger children, ages 5 and 7, died in the fire.

MCSO detectives and the State Fire Marshal are investigating what has caused the fatal fire. Officials haven’t released the names of the victims yet, they are working to notify the family members.
